Er... I honeymooned in China (Xian City, August this year)

I've lived in China and since visited many times - so don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

It's worth a 100 Americas (been there loads of times too) and I can assure you China is a world away from this *beep* movie...

reply

thanks but I'd rather live in a country where democracy is respected

I've been to china and america...i would chose to live i china any day. A truly beautiful and interesting place.

but you missed the part where her husband was Chinese, and had family in china. maybe he couldnt afford to visit often and a honeymoon makes the perfect opportunity to visit.

at least in America you don't need to fear being sentenced to death for expressing your opinion against the government

I have not seen the movie

"I have not seen the movie "

Then why comment about a part of the plot?

'Fiery the Angels rose, & as they rose deep thunder roll'd.'

reply

Because it involves honeymooning in China. Please try to keep up. It hurts the flow of the conversation, when you fall behind.

i am not really interested in keeping up with you.

Why come to a forum about a film you havent seen and ask your dumb question that is answered in the first few minutes of the film?

From your OP i now see that you are either:

1. Rascist
2. Troll
3. Just plain dumb.

Which is it?

Wut? Do you even know anything about China or do you get all your information from scaremongering politicos trying to stop jobs from being outsourced?

reply

I'm sorry if my belief that China has no human rights is incorrect.

reply

Your belief IS incorrect, and ignorant. Do research before you judge an entire nation.

Besides, you really think people in America have it so good?

I would rather live in SO many other countries before even visiting 'Murica. Unlike the strange American mentality, America is not the greatest country on Earth. Not even close.

reply

You're right. It's not. Neither is my country.

The added expense of traveling halfway around the world is ridiculous, never mind the fact that visiting distant relatives on an such intimate occasion makes no sense whatsoever.

"The added expense of traveling halfway around the world is ridiculous"

We have no idea what their finances are like, it may not be a lot of money to them. Time is usually the thing that people cant afford to spend. He may not have had the chance to visit for a long time due to his life in another country.

"never mind the fact that visiting distant relatives on an such intimate occasion makes no sense whatsoever. "

Are you 12? intimate occasion? jesus its just a honeymoon, you are allowed to speak to other people while on it. Makes perfect sense to use the occasion to visit family and spend time together.

a trip like that is in the 25k yaun neighborhood,
given their appearances and obvious lack of education-
I highly doubt either could come anywhere close to affording it.

25k Yaun is not a lot of money.

"given their appearances"

I look very shabby myself, but i am quite well off, i just dont care about what clothes i wear or if i have shaved or not. Appearances mean nothing.

"obvious lack of education- "

Can you explain?

"I highly doubt either could come anywhere close to affording it. "

The finances are not mentioned so it is nonsense to assume they couldn't afford such a trip, seeing as they were there doing it. Obviously they can afford it.

Slovenliness is a huge indicator of not only personal negligence but also a lack intellect and morals in general.
They employed an incompetent escort on the cheap that brought them to that region and ended up leaving them stranded.
Also the husband not fully understanding the local dialect and customs.

"Slovenliness is a huge indicator of not only personal negligence but also a lack intellect and morals in general. "

No it isnt. You must be rather ignorant to even write that. The most famous slob would be Einstein, he was quite intelligent! I do follow one of his slobbish ways, i have lots of the same t-shirt so that i dont have to think about what to wear.

So in your opinion, all casually dressed people who have a beard are immoral and dumb, and i guess all smartly dressed people are clever and have high morals? Ridiculous thing to say. Shame on you.

"They employed an incompetent escort on the cheap that brought them to that region and ended up leaving them stranded.

Absolutely no indication of being unintelligent. The escort TRICKED them, he wanted them to get caught out and stuck at the village. How on earth is that their fault? Ignorance of local dialect and customs? That describes every American who ever went abroad.

Einstein did not have a beard nor did he dress "causally"
How did the escort (or so-called 'driver') trick them?
Unless he was offering himself as a sacrifice as well.
Which I doubt.

"Einstein did not have a beard nor did he dress "causally" "

No beard, (whatever point you are trying to make there?) he had a huge unruly mustache, wild hair, wore cardigans and famously hated to wear socks. He is well known to have a wardrobe full of the same clothes as he didnt want to waste time thinking about such things. He was very casual, some quotes about his appearance:

'Einstein was also a fanatical slob, refusing to "dress properly" for anyone. Either people knew him or they didn't, he reasoned - so it didn't matter either way.'

or this quote from Einstein himself:

'“Long hair minimizes the need for barbers; socks can be done without; one leather jacket solves the coat problem for many years; suspenders are superfluous.”'

YES, he was a casual dresser and made ZERO effort on his appearance.

I saw the film a while ago but i distinctly remember that the driver abandoned them, he was never killed. It seemed to me that he took them there on purpose, to be sacrifices.

There's something we can agree on.

The movie is a mere 3 (three) years old- I would ask why you do not remember the further actions of the escort, or as you call him 'driver', but as you forgot which one of us brought beards in to this discussion, perhaps your memory is not at it's best ?

"I would ask why you do not remember the further actions of the escort,"

As you can see from my posts, i posted here just after seeing the film in April 2010, hence my saying i saw the film a while ago. Its quite a forgettable B movie horror and i see a lot of them. So its pretty fair, i think, to say i dont remember all the exact points of the film. I do remember the driver, or as you call him 'escort', abandoning them. Can you jog my memory as to what he did that proves the couple were unintelligent to have hired him?

BTW, I brought up beards - i didnt forget, why do you think that? I wondered what point YOU were making by saying Einstein didnt have a beard. No one had claimed he did, he was still a very casual person as i told you. Hope you learned something.

One of the points of the film is how the groom was almost completely ignorant of his ancestor's social behavior patterns and beliefs. These are the same ancestors he deemed necessary to bring his new bride to meet, for some seemingly unintelligent reason. Them having a honeymoon in their local Chinatown would not only have saved them time & money but would have made more sense.

Who invited E.T. -?

reply

You learned nothing? You could put that on your headstone :)

Yes, he wanted to visit his relatives as he had grown up in America. Whats wrong with that? You saying you should only visit places and people you know all about? Why is it important to know all the 'social behaviour patterns' of people you visit? Especially if you visit them only once!

He wanted an interesting honeymoon, and he could use the excuse to go to china that he has relatives there that he has hardly ever met. Makes perfect sense and does not imply any lack of intelligence on his part. Not did his hiring of a driver to take them to these remote places.

Apparently you think that going somewhere you dont know much about shows a lack of intelligence, and you should never leave the general area you live in. Your views are about 200 years out of date. nowadays people can travel to far away places and see the world, broaden their horizons and experience strange cultures and peoples. you dont have to live and die never having left the village you were born in...frightened of outsiders and the Moon. But good luck with it anyway.

A death threat, from a skeptic no less, amusing.

An interesting honeymoon is certainly not voyaging into the unknown-
unless experiencing a strange culture set on murder, that you happen to be related to, and willing to subject your new bride to the carnage, is what you consider interesting.
Albert Brooks famously quoted "Anyone can pick something when they know what it is; It takes real leadership to pick something you're clueless about."

"A death threat"

Jeez... you are not the sharpest tool in the shed. You get a headstone when you die, however it is that you died (Dont you know that?)...i hope you have a long and pleasant life before you need a headstone, i certainly didnt imply it should be any earlier than your natural time. 'I learned nothing' would be a fitting epitaph for you as you clearly havent learnt much so far in life, and i guess wont do by the end of it. I even put a smiley face next to it to show I was trying to joke with you. And your low IQ translates this to a death threat. Congrats, you win dumbest person of the day on IMDB.

"An interesting honeymoon is certainly not voyaging into the unknown-"

Not to YOU numbnuts, you probably dont even have a passport. But to a lot of people with a bit of adventure in their soul, visiting a totally different culture is as good and interesting as a holiday can get. BTW, a honeymoon is just a holiday, not sure what you think it is.

Just for fun, what is your idea of an interesting honeymoon?

"unless experiencing a strange culture set on murder"

and of course they knew what they were heading into and chose it specifically (this is sarcasm, i point this out to you as its now clear to me that you are a bit slow).

You have consistently failed to prove your point.. Time to quit making yourself look so stupid?

Typical "stupid American". Ugh people like you give our country such a bad name. Lemme guess, you're one of those that's never left the country (or let me rephrase that, never left North America bc no, Canada and Mexico don't count) bc u think "America is the best country in the world so why bother?", right?! Or your passport only includes stamps to places you've gone to on a cruise or all-inclusive resort where u never leave a westernized atmosphere and just lay around getting drunk and sun burned. Yick. Get up and get out there u naive bum and learn something and gain some culture....especially before you try to have any sort of argument that involves other countries and their beliefs, cultures, religious, behaviors, social customs, etc. plus I'm sure you def need to get laid too if u think a honeymoon can't involve visiting family abroad that you haven't seen in awhile and is strictly "intimate". But then again I'm sure you must have a tough time picking anybody up with the close-minded "I don't go anywhere where there isn't a McDonald's on every corner" mentality or that u think intelligence is in any way determined by how one dresses...(I for one would love to raid Lindsey Lohans closet, but doubt I'm the minority in thinking she's the most cerebral of women). Get a passport and go travel u bum. Not everywhere overseas and exciting is super expensive.....and yes, the experience is worth every penny
fool, so the main characters in the movie saving up for what they THOUGHT would be a new and fun trip wouldn't be irrational or a dumb move (if the circumstances didn't even up in the one in a million way it did).

And I meant to say Lindsay is NOT the most cerebral (before I get trolled for that comment itself)

I would live to visit China. It's much better then what most North American's view as exotic travel. Which is sitting on a beach in a resort that is basically. americanized version of that country your visiting.

You're an odd and rude fellow eh. Lots of ppl visit China nowadays and I'am sure a few honeymoon there, especially if oh you know the husband and/or wife was Chinese!

I dont think they would beat the *beep* out of tourists in China, and its not like they lived there anyway.

I guess you wanted to make a political point. lol.

China would definitely be an odd choice for a honeymoon with out a doubt.
