The Tragedy of the CENTURY!!!!!!!

Poor tragic Diana! "Ohhhh the pain, the pain." I STILL don't understand the whole phenomenom of the "People's Princess". I DO get the whole deal about "marry a prince who will rescue you from your "Cinderella" life. But, WHY the enormous outflow of "love" for this woman? First off, she CHOSE this life. Prince Charles (who's always the bad guy) was BORN into it. He had to give up the woman he loved to produce an heir "worthy" of the throne. He NEVER gets any sympathy from the Diannaphiles. Not that I feel too bad for him. But folks, this idotic HATE for the paparazzi who "caused" Dianna's death? What kind of IDIOT marries the Prince of Wales and then expects to have PRIVACY!!!!!!!????? This idea that she was like a saint. She lived a life of luxury, wearing EXPENSIVE clothes and jewelry, as the PR person for the Windsors. But she was "shy", hating to have her picture taken! Like a lifeguard who fears the water!

Why this overwhelming sympathy for her "tragic life"? I have heard waitresses, who work damned hard, for not a lot of money, comiserate with each other about how tough Diana had it! WTF!!! Excuse me, could I have a REALITY CHECK here, along with the lunch check? What? Ever day wasn't perfect? Sniff, Sniff. Sure she had her problems, just like anyone else. But keep the sympathy in perspective. Are all these red-eyed Dianna worshipers also extremely upset about the handicapped, the poor, the victims of violent crimes?

After whinning about the "coldness" of the Royal Family, the thing she apparently regreted the MOST after losing custody of her sons was the loss of the golden title: HRH. Such a MODEST, HUMBLE person.

I know- "But she did such GOOD work alerting the world to the dangers of landmines." Well ALL celebrities have causes. I don't see anyone bowing down to Jerry Lewis. Besides, she was dating the son of Europe's leading ARMS DEALER. Who, among his various little goodies, sold LANDMINES!

WHO killed Dianna? Not the Paparazzi. Not the Royals, Not the drunk who drove the Limo. And ESPECIALLY not the gunmen who were spotted on the "Grassy Knoll". It was the morons who bought all the magazines and tabloids because the "Goddess Dianna" was feature on the cover! The idiots who watched the "Perils of Dianna" on TV programs dedicated to the uncritical adulation of this self-centred woman. Look in the mirror and cry "J'accuse" at the person staring back at you!

BTW thanks to her I can never listen to that great tribute to the late Marilyn Monroe, "Candle in the Wind", because Elton John had to cheapen it in his remake "Goodbye England's Rose" YUCK YUCK AND YUCK .

You said it yourself:

My first thought when I heard of the accident was "the secretary demographic will be devastated"

Diana provided fodder for the masses to ignore the deprivations in their own lives. Diana's big mistake was to think that the Royal Family was the only entrenched establishment stakeholder in her ongoing sideshow.

The real tragedy was that in the name of virginity, the Royals had to pick a mentally fragile, naive, dumb dumb dumb girl for this mission. Her mother was a wack job and I don't think Diana ever got over the sense of abandonment. On that level she was entirely unsuited to the task at hand which involved dutifully handling abandonment by someone more monarch than husband. I remember being astonished seeing the first post-engagement interview with her and Charles and realizing she didn't understand that she had been hired to do a job, not found true love.

Sadly for her, but happily for society times have changed. No one expects Prince William's eventual wife has to be a virgin (although tip for the kids: don't make that cellphone sex tape if you want to be queen). This massively expands the pool of available women from the limited range of batsheet crazy emotionally stunted teenagers that Charles had to choose from.
