Would've Liked This Better If...

Simon was an Arab. Was watching a episode of this, probably episode 2, was watching Simon talking to someone else at a crime scene & truthfully I thought he was a Arab. Not only that but I thought he was a Arab cop, investigating a Arab crime, working in a agency that also had Jews & whoever else there. That would've made this series that much more potent & relevant to me.

In the fact that you had a police agency with Arabs & Jews working together, despite their differences trying to maintain the peace. Was really disappointed when I found out Simon was indeed Jewish.

This is based on a true story and the Israeli Security Agency were the ones to break the case. Also it is interesting how the lead detective Simon has to confront the assumption by his colleagues that Jews, especially Orthodox Jews, do not have it in them to commit a violent revenge killing. It is interesting how Simon has to use his own background as a former Orthodox Jew, and even borrow his brother’s yamulka to attend the Shabbat services, to infiltrate the tight closed community in which the suspects belong.

This is not a Sci-Fi story.

Having said that, not all local FATAH "overlords" are the same and there are areas where IDF work quite closely with the Palestinian police. Ten years ago or so I did reservist service near Jericho. It's mostly populated by old Arab clans and they are a lot more tolerant to Jews, so our unit maintained pretty good relationship with the local police.

Thanks for your insight. So far I've missed the presence of any Fatah policing in this series, it's been all Shin Bet. I'm assuming Palestinian police just don't have jurisdiction in any of the areas featured, even in the West Bank around the Adam settlement? They appear to play no role at all.

Do you think this is made up or something? What do you mean, would have made it better for you? This isn't a story they have created for your amusement.

If you want something with a different mix (not necessarily Arab and Israeli police working together, but some Israelis posing as Arabs), you might try "Fauda."

The man who created, helps to write and stars in it is an actual veteran of the kind of domestic counter terrorism team portrayed in the show. The Fauda team is Israeli. But they are trained to pose in Palestinian and Arab areas---they speak the language perfectly, have the mannerisms and nobody knows they are Israeli when they are working "behind the lines." etc.

Aside from being an intelligent as well as action-oriented team, the show treats the Palestinian and Israeli "sides" and characters with sensitivity and explores the gray areas of both sides of the conflict.

Until "Our Boys" I'd have said "Fauda" and "Hatufim" were the best shows that explore both sides with intelligent scripts. But now "Our Boys" joins them in a top 3 in my opinion.
