First Impressions

I've put this show on the back burner for awhile and finally decided to check it out. I'm only 1 Ep. into it and so far it's not horrible for the first ever attempt to bring one of Terry Brooks worlds to screen. I've been hoping someone would for quite a long time, although I was always a bigger fan of his Landover series as a young reader than I was his Shannara books.

Being a familiar reader - mostly with the Word & Void series and the Genesis of Shannara, I've only read the first three or four books of the original series to date, but I plan to restart sometime and read them from start to finish (whenever the finish is lol)

The actors that drew me to this were Manu Bennett (favorite guy in Spartacus), John Rhy Davies (general fan of) and James Remar. I'm not too familiar with most of the others, but I do like who they picked for Wil and Amberle. So far Wil is a crack up - "Great now I'm the guy who talks to his horse!" ha ha

I never expect any film to be perfectly true to the book it is based upon and I do realize that quite a lot of shows and films have to face and deal with less than desirable budgets. So far I like the music and the scenery is quite gorgeous, but I was rather disappointed at Wil's first encounter with the troll when it was obvious both he and the troll actor were wearing boots with modern factory formed treads. Some of the costumes look great, but it's obvious that more $$ went into special effects leaving less for clothing that would by necessity be produced by hand from materials available.

Episode 1 is by far the best episode in the season. It gets worse, quickly.

Mine: Elves in this world are so dumb and even their best warriors are very easy to kill (and their army is supposedly the best?)
