So I haven't seen this yet but I have a question

Does this movie touch upon the fact that Ginsburg was an open member of NAMBLA? A group that fights for pedophilia? I don't think it's ever been made clear whether or not he actually molested any kids but that doesn't even matter, he JOINED and PARTICIPATED in the group.

Here's what I find with a simple google images search of "Allen Ginsburg"

Please note, this is from the official NAMBLA website.

Ginsberg with an E.

But seriously? Come on, CharlesV! Are you really asking a question about the movie or are you just pointing out some disturbing information?

You have obviously done some research elsewhere (which is admirable) but did little reading here on IMDB as Howl's storyline reads:

It's San Francisco in 1957, and an American masterpiece is put on trial. Howl, the film, recounts this dark moment ...

The film takes place in and around 1957 as well as some scenes from earlier that have inspired Ginsberg's work before that. NAMBLA (vomit -- what a repulsive organization!) was founded in 1978 according to Wikipedia (I'll trust that site this time b/c I'd feel uncomfortable doing any more research on this [unbelievable-in-a-bad-way] organization).

That the MBL in the acronym stands for "Man/Boy Love" makes my skin crawl. Reading its history on Wiki is beyond comprehension as it came into being after a sting operation caught 24 men who had abducted boys between the ages 8 and 15 to have their way with by "luring" some of the boys into their lairs with VIDEO GAMES!

What the ... what a world we live in.

My friend I don't know what you're trying to say. This film paints him in a positive light and people continue to do that to this day. People praise him and cheer for him even when he's old and they don't seem to know that he was in NAMBLA.

Hell, he was on stage with Paul McCartney in the early 90s reciting one of his poems while McCartney played music for it amidst a whole lot of cheering from the audience.

I can see how there's nowhere in this film that they could mention his NAMBLA involvement but this film still promotes him in a positive light as a "great artist" and perhaps he is but he's a great artist who supported pedophilia and not a lot of people know that. Just makes me sick.

You ask if the film portrays him as an open member of NAMBLA. I pointed out the time setting of the film (1957 and earlier) and the start date of NAMBLA (1978) meaning the film could NOT depict him as such as the organization wasn't in existence at the time of the film. That is all.

I'm not defending him or his actions ... just answering your question that is answered by historical dates and nothing more. I wasn't sure if you were asking a serious question about the organization's inclusion in the film -- which couldn't have happened because of the dates and as you were knowledgable about other things I'd assume you'd know this too -- or simply wanting to point out the man very well could have been morally indecent.

It would have been an IMPOSSIBLITY to depict him as a member of this said organization that didn't come around for decades after the events in this film.

This is simply a slice of time of his life, Howl doesn't depict Ginsberg in his later years. The film solely focuses on this indecency trial and little more (although some flashbacks to EARLIER dates of Ginsberg inspiration).

I am NOT disagreeing with you or your opinion ... simply pointing out dates and times.

I said that in my previous post.

Yes, but you started that reply with this above sentence. My reply was more re-iteration of the first ... which again answered a question you possibly didn't intend on actually being answered (which was actually my first question back to you).

Were you being serious with that initial question or merely being cheeky?
