Same writer/director/actresses. Different plots. Both very good.

There's beauty in breakdown

reply

Nope. The World Unseen is embarrassingly poor.

I haven't seen I Can't Think Straight yet but I doubt I will if it means foraging the same lame ground as this movie.

The leads are obviously stunning women, but the direction and writing here are so soulless there's no way of knowing if they have any actual talent.

I completely agree with you Julie. I was very disappointed because I was even looking forward seeing this film, but this film was so banal! So cliché. Acting was bad, storyline was bad.

I haven't seen I Cant Think Straight either, but I'm hoping it wouldn't be as bad as this one.

You know, I thought the same exact the first 5 minutes in watching this film but I went in expecting it to be distant, away from Sarif's other film because the stories within are mostly about issues of racism in the 1950's, NOT lesbianism! (Assuming you watch GLBT films). One shouldn't compare The World Unseen to I Can't Think Straight. If you haven't seen ICTS yet, then you'll probably find the acting to be worse than this film. However, I completely disagree with the both of you! This is the best film I have ever seen! I rarely say that about any film. It was well scripted, VERY well acted and just sublime truthfulness. Nothing about this film was cliché, unless you find policemen beating Africans or kicking pregnant women in the stomach, unrealistically portrayed, then perhaps you should take a moment to consider what exactly cliché IS/means. (Hollywood anyone?) Whoever reads this that hasn't seen this film yet, please do see it! This film is meant to carry a slow pace. ICTK is almost too quick... nonetheless, both films are genuinely great to watch!

Seeing these movies back to back made me think that they are a real life couple - any info on that?

reply

Their both straight.

They're full of words, of how I want you...how...I love you

reply

They're two completely different films. Having seen I Can't Think Straight first, I thought it was absolutely fantastic. The World Unseen can't really be compared. It may have the same actresses and directors but that's like comparing Willy Wonka to Sweeny Todd and Edward Scissorhands or Corpse Bride... Johnny Depp and the director (and usually Helena Bonham Carter) are the same across all of them but yet they're completely different.

The World Unseen is a completely original plot line, set in a time and place that rarely appears on film. It's a classical lesbian story for discrimination, subordination and pain but set in an entirely new place, time and situation. It's realistic and it's straight from the heart.

Well done to the director and the two beautiful actresses for both of these incredible films, that if you look beyond the surface, are a whole lot more than what they seem.
