Questions

I have a few questions after watching this film. ( I have not read the book, so if they are answered or explained in there SORRY!!)

1) In the beginning when Farah says they are going to the cafe for lunch, Miriam seems anxious and nervous. Is this because they are allowed by their husbands to go out to eat? Or is it because she knows Amina will be there? They have lived in the same town for years (so I assume from a scene later on on the movie) so I find it a little difficult for this to be the first time they meet.

2) Also when Miriam says that Omar stays in Cape Town with his brother (or sister, I do not remember exactly what she said) she seemed as if she said something she should not have. I was wondering if there are rules within the culture that restrict certain things or if it implied adultery. I am not familiar with the norms within this culture or the laws of apartheid. I could also be over thinking this wayyyy too much.

i forgot one!!

3) when Miriam says that Omar and Rehmat could be twins and all the awkward stares circle the table, is that because them being twins should be something Miriam knows already?

reply

1) Miriam doesn't get out much, so no she had never been to the cafe before. And she could only go with her husbands approval.

2)Miriam didn't know they were twins, so it's an embarrassed silence that her husband doesn't tell her stuff.

I'd die for you. I love you. I love you so much it's killing me.
