Is Biagio Schiro made up?

First of all, great series. All the facts from this series seem to be real, but I can't find any info on the internet on the main character, Biago Schiro.

It seems weird that just this character is made up, but maybe no police officer could survive the ordeals he went through? But he is told to be a childhood friend of Riina, so it seems like a bold move from the producers to make him up?

Anyone have any info on Biagio Schiro?

reply

I was thinking about the same thing. I think actually he´s fictional.

reply

He has to be made up, or put together by different characters, because he would have been a true hero if the story is true.

Hi...i'm the director of the series.
Biagio was made up to represent all the ordinary men who fought the mafia over the years..
Through him we meet the historic crime fighting Police chiefs, judges, politicians (Giuliano, Falcone, Borselino etc.) and as their lives were all cut short by the cosa nostra we felt we needed a figure who stayed alive and told their stories. The sad truth is that the real heroes were all killed before the could witness the arrest of the boss Riina.

If you really are one of the directors of the series, I'd like to say that you made a near perfect film. All of my friends and family in Sicily and Los Angeles (where I live now) are obsessed with this show.
I'm proud of this film because I'm from Cinisi, Sicily and I've never seen a true portrayal of the traditional sicilian mafia, except for I Cento Passi maybe. I'm also proud because I believe that recently Italian films have been boring or just straight garbage (Natale a New York, etc), and this is not only a great sicilian film, it's a great Italian film.
Thanks for making this, and thanks for making it so good.

Please keep making fantastic films

Thank you very much for a claryfing answer, and for making a great series! Looking forward to seeing more from you, and more series about the Sicilian Mafia.

I heard there was another series focusing on Bernardo Provenzano?

It seems people have missed the fact that this series has been directed by 2 persons, i.e. Enzo Monteleone and Alexis Sweet (a.k.a. Alexis Cahill Sweet or Alexis Cahill). Consequently no-one can say 'hi...i'm the director of the series.', as this would be impersonating on the internet, which is illegal.
Furthermore, in my opinion, the avatar-name 'sweety-3' would hardly be a name either of the directors would use in a forum like this. They don't need to hide behind an internet name, do they..?
Having said that, I think the series is great (as many of the Italian crime/police series are) although European people (and especially the Italians) can more relate to it than Americans.

daimlerv12 - you are talking nonsense. People who work in film and tv are just as likely to use a psuedonym on the internet as anybody else.

And who exactly is he impersonating? Your sentence doesn't even make sense. Not only that; impersonating someone isn't illegal unless you defame or defraud.

reply

Hi...i'm the director of the series.

If you are still reading these comments after all these years, I have a question for you - a question, not a complaint. Was there a conscious decision made to exclude the Train 904 bombing and the continuing assassinations and attacks during and after Riina's arrest? The series almost made it seem that his arrest put an end to all the terror.

reply

Still here after all these years :)

Biagio Schiro is purely made up for plot purposes. If you go to Wikipedia, search for "Il Capo Dei Capi", and then read the info about the first episode. It says that Schiro is made up.

It would have been cool though if he really did excist...

reply

Indeed, but people like him really existed and were portrayed in the series.

Commissioners Boris Giuliano, Giuseppe Montana. Ninni Cassarà, general Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, captain Emanuele Basile, prosecutors Gaetano Costa, Rocco Chinnici, Giovanni Falcone, Paolo Borsellino, Pietro Scaglione, Cesare Terranova, communist party local leader Pio La Torre were all heroes slain by the mafia.
