Rape

I though the movie had suspense and some scary scenes, but the rape scenes I thought were unnecesary. The first one didnt have anything to do with the movie or maybe it did but I am somewhat confused. Maybe it was put there just to confuse the viewer into thinking that the victim had returned to look for revenge.
The sister of the avenging ghost was raped in the apartment or the store that burned down????
