A truly great movie.

I'm going to get copies of this into the hands of everyone I know...the movie is tremendous.

It is certainly encouraging that films like this are being made.

Pankaj Kapur achieved a screen presence akin to Toshiro Mifune at his best.

This movie was indeed great.

I am wondering how it will play for those who have a minimal background in Hinduism (e.g. college students in a World Religions class in America). Will they see the depth, or will they be stuck at "It's stupid and awful to be so prejudiced; that's what comes of worshiping idols"? I guess I'll find out this fall. I'll do my best to provide them with adequate factual background--will they have the heart background? No way to know without trying, I guess.

This movie carries a dangerous politics. It justifies the brahminic ideology of casteism, which is nothing but evil just like the ideology Nazism. The movie carves a hero out of a brahmin, who appears to be very stringent about the scriptures and also non-violent in his actions. But the entire ideology of casteism, which he stand for, is based on hatred for others. You cannot easily seperate the militant wing of religion, (here the violent mob representing the RSS in india) from the ideological frame work of the religion (represented here by the main character)
