I thought the In Memoriam segment was dreadful this year. The music was too upbeat and it rushed through the names too quickly. It is usually a sombre and moving highlight of the show.
Did anybody note which names they left out? Off the top of my head Jessica Walter was a big one.
The memorial was probably complete before she passed. So she'll most likely be in next years. I did notice that DMX was in there but looks like he was spliced in and it wasn't done very well.
shareAs well as DMX, Helen McCrory who passed away just last week was included so, unfortunately, Ms Walter's chance of inclusion has passed... :(

I don't know how they pick and choose. Time allotted I would guess.
Only criteria I know of is that you must be a member of the Academy. So a lot of actors whose careers are mainly in TV would not be included if they were not, for exampe, Dawn Wells & Lyle Waggoner may not have been members (I don't know if they were).
People used to talk about how R. Lee Ermy was never mentioned. He was not a member of the Academy. They wanted to give him membership so he could be nominated for Full Metal Jacket but he declined.
