Should have a warning for people who've lost loved ones (spoilers)

Firstly, I am kinda joking with the subject of this thread.

But at the same time ... although I knew beforehand that Redgrave's character died, I was expecting something ultimately uplifting. But instead I felt so traumatised by watching the scenes leading up to the death, that I just couldn't appreciate the rest of the film. It was relatively mild, as it has to be to receive a PG certificate. But 2 years ago I was with my grandmother as she passed away with cancer, and it was so much like in the film that all those emotions flooded back. I was balling my eyes out!

An excellent film, but a painful one to watch if you have been through that in real life.

I've been through it 3 times, with both my parents and my sister. And yes, I sobbed for a lot of the movie as well. And I agree totally with your post, I too was expecting something a bit more uplifting. Having said that, every now and again I need to have a good cry in remembrance of my family as I block it out most of the time during day to day living.

Travel_Chick_UK, so sorry to read about the loss of your grandmother. I hope the cry you had with this movie allowed some of the hurt of your loss to be released. I believe that tears can help us let go of the pain so that in time only the positive memories remain. My Mom might be in the final stages of her life right now and I live just one block from her and see her often. I cried during the concert scene at the end of this movie and expect there will be more tears to come this year...
