Just a 'head's up'....

I went to this film--judging by the trailer--to see a bunch of goofy octagenarians singing rock, punk and pop songs. What I got was some of that and a whole lot more. The film is more about the art of survival, the rejuvenation that music and commardiere bring. Some of this is very, very painful to watch, particularly if you've experienced the recent loss of an aging parent or grandparent. I was nailed to the chair more than a few times.

If I had been warned about that perhaps I would have had my guard up. So I thought I'd pass that along.

The songs aren't just "inappropriate" for the age group of the singers; they are chosen for a particular--appropriate--emotional whollop. And all deliver one. I was particularly touched by the dedication and commitment of Bob Cilman. May he stay "forever young." Bravo. (And the lovely, lovely moment when they rehearse Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U".... I'll never hear that song again without thinking of all these folks.)

Silly, but I found myself hoping Chris Martin and his Coldplay bandmates might see this film. They did such honor to "Fix You".

I had the exact same thought as I was driving home. I would love to see their reaction to the cover of their song.
