Demographic?

So, I have wanted to see this movie for a while (ever since I saw the trailer before the movie Atonement). But, when it came out none of my friends wanted to come see it with me. I guess they thought it sounded lame or something...I never really asked them why they didn't want to see it. Well, anyway, I ended up seeing it with my mother and my 9-yr-old brother and we were the youngest people in the theater. Basically, it was full of senior citizens.

Now, don't get me wrong...I'm not stupid. I know the movie is probably more appealing for the elderly, but it really was a movie that could be enjoyed by all age groups. I mean, my mother, my younger brother, and I enjoyed immensely.

Anyway, I'm 17 by the way...so how old are the fans I'm wondering...

If you could please post your age, what demographic/how many people were in your theater when seeing this, how you found out about this movie, and any other information that would be great. I guess I'm just interested for some reason. Thanks. =)

My hubby and I are in our 30's and absolutely LOVED this movie. I drink my coffee from my Ramones cup every morning so hearing this chorus sing I Wanna Be Sedated brought tears to my eyes.
I would have loved this movie just as much at your age, Rhymnoceros. Your friends aren't nearly as cool as you.

reply

Haha...well, thank you very much. You are pretty awesome yourself...drinking out of a Ramones cup every morning. I thought it was so cool how all of the members of Young @ Heart just completely dove into all of the music they performed even though they were out of comfort zone.

I'm 34. There were 6 other people in the theater besides me. Two were older ladies, but the rest of us were probably under 50, with 2 that were probably in their 20s. I also think this movie would be great at any age depending on your personality and taste, so, Rhymnoceros, you obviously have great taste!

Just saw the movie last night, and the theater contained all ages, including a couple of young kids, a couple of twentysomethings, and my husband and I who are in our 40s (and a lot of older people). We loved it and so did our 8 yo son.

My Mom and I wanted to see this movie (I'm 18 and she's 48, and we both saw a trailer in front of "Atonement" too). However, we missed it in theaters. Now I'm off at college, and I watched it tonight on campus, so the entire audience was between the ages of 18 and 22. The showing of "Iron Man" before pretty much filled the auditorium to 100% capacity, while "Young @ Heart" was probably only about 50% full, but hey... that's still a good crowd. And everyone was laughing and clapping and getting into the film.

This movie wasn't released in theaters around me, so I had to wait until now to see it. I just finished the DVD with a friend of mine and we both loved it! She's 30 and I'm 22.

I am 67 and really liked this movie. In the movie they perform for a group at a prison, mostly young men. For a moment I thought the crowd would mock them but it was clear that they found the group as enjoyable and inspiring as anyone would. It is out on DVD now so I would say try it, you have nothing to lose. I know this age range is way far away from you and your brother, but it will let you see what people your grand or great grandparents age are all about. And these people are nothing short of terrific.

I'm watching it right now with my dad on DVD. I'm at the part where the group went to the prison. it made me tear a little bit when Bob died.. but I have enjoyed this movie ALOT.

I'm 24 years old, watching it with my 62 year old dad. :D

I'm 32 and loved it. "Fix You" made me cry like a baby and is worth the price of two admissions alone.

I e-mailed some close friends who have similar tastes in movies as me, but I have yet to hear from them. I don't think they are opposed to giving it a chance, but are simply not in a rush to see it.

I was in rush because I was in the mood for some perspective and guidance in my life and felt I could get it from listening to some older people who lived a long life, and the movie delivered.

I waited to watch this movie until it came out on DVD and I am glad I did because I cried like a girl throughout most of the film! I'm a 26 yr old bachelor and I found this to be one of the most touching docs I have ever seen.

I just saw this movie on a Qantas plane and was glad that I was also able to point it out to my wife (we're both in early 40's). It was the most inspiring thing I've seen in a long time and made you laugh and cry, often at the same time (I didn't think that was possible). The version of "Fix You" was incredibly powerful - unfortunately I just heard that Fred who sang it has died in the last few days, which makes it all the more poignant.
Bravo to the makers of this film - I just wish more people could know about it. I'd not even heard of it before and came across it randomly on the plane, thinking it sounded like an interesting concept and pow... I can just imagine my mother joining such a group if one existed in her town..

I watched it at home with my girlfriend I'm 53 and she's 46.
We thought it was great!
I actually watched it again with another friend who is 23 and she love it to.

I first heard about it on some review show and then this buzz started for it.

Both of my parents are still alive and are 86 and 82. My mother lives alone and is very independent. My father is at a board and care, but still has his marbles. :)
I gave it to my mother to watch and she enjoyed it, but I don't think my father would be interested.

Most people I gave this movie to gave me a funny look when I told them what it was about, but all of them thanked me afterward.
