So about that Miracle...

What was the Miracle at St. Anna exactly? I just saw the movie and I don't understand.

I would guess the miracle is that Negron actually sees Arturo's ghost, and then survives the massacre of everyone in this village.

reply

That could be, but that village is not St. Anna. St. Anna is the village where everyone was massacred, where Angelo came from. I'm not sure what the miracle is either, but I really enjoyed this movie.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas... Except herpes, that *beep* come back with you.

reply

Maybe the miracle was that in the midst of all that murderous brutality at St. Anna, there managed to still be some humanity. Maybe what the movie is trying to say is that in this hate-filled world, kindness and love are the real miracles.

I would think that Angelo being brought back from the dead (“You’re not dead any more”) by a child who I believe is a ghost would classify as a miracle.

reply

Not a ghost, he was an angel.

The miracle is the kid surviving despite his entire village being massacred.

reply

Wat I dont get is Hector (the Latin black wateva his name was) was wounded. I heard the Nazi SS dude say bury the dead and something about the wounded. Yet he was still therre after all of that

reply

I think the miracle was that the kid survived the massacre and he and Negron met again later in life with the statue head.

My opinion would be that it was the German soldier's act of saving Angelo (and almost saving Arturo... THAT close.) from the slaughter at St Anna; or perhaps Angelo himself. Angelo was pretty much focused upon throughout the film as some sort of miracle, or miracle-maker - from his way of "fixing" the radio to his miraculous survival of a chest-wound during the final battle.

reply

The miracle was Angelo. He was focused on throughout the film and he was a miracle-maker (fix radio) and his miraculous survival of a chest-wound with the assistance of an angel. He was also in the final scene of the movie as well.

Wonder what Spike would say?

Almost a great film ... lil hard to follow ... lil too long ... but makes some great and unique points (8 of 10)

reply

You ever notice how so many many MANY people have to suffer for something to be singled out and called a miracle?
What a wierd tragic concept, only humans would come up with that nonsense.
Clutching at straws I suppose.

reply

Same here, where was the miracle when everyone pretty much died.
