first 30 mins almost too painful to watch....

.... I mean could they possibly have made him any more of a loser?!?

I agree. And no one does marginalized like Dustin.

that's why it was so brilliant when he found his place again.

I agree. They threw EVERYTHING at him.

- security tag on his jacket
- being replaced to walk his daughter down the aisle
- being seated at the the VERY back DURING the ceremony
- getting fired
- heart attack on the stairs

etc, etc.

I think the way he handled the situation was very poor. From what the movie showed, he wasn't very involved in his daughter's life since the divorce and that it was the step-father who was the primary figure in her life. Why then would he presume that he was as important in her life as Bryan? The way that he felt compelled to give a toast after Bryan did really felt unseemly to me.

I don't think that it was unreasonable of his daughter to have Bryan give her away either.

I am really disguested at him missing the flight too. You would think that when it is a do-or-get-fired situation, he would have the common sense to arrive at the airport extremely early.

I agree. I think it was overkill and I think the script should have been lighter in tone. I also think it was a mistake not having the leads meet till half way through the movie (aside from the initial brief interview encounter). 🐭
