I went to see the oprhan at the movies a few months back.
was an excellent movie, but watching this - it drove me nuts.
there are far too many of the sames things happening - in the same order even, or is it just me?
i dont want to go in to detail incase those who haven't seen either movie might find it spoiling - but those who have - you can see what i mean right?
the orphan was an adult woman with that syndrome that make some people look like a child. She targeted the family because she wanted the father. In this its an actual child out for revenge on her fathers other family...
I can see what you find similar in the foster kid sense. The twists/motif are different.
But if you want to stick to the original plot... Then 'evil foster kid' is basically the same...
But I wouldn't call it a rip off of the other. There are plenty of other evil child, evil foster child, movies out there. Movies aren't original these days but at least accept it for what it was. It wasn't horrible. You enjoyed it isn't that all that matters...

The only thing truly original about Orphan was the twist- but evil female child goes back to The Bad Seed, and later with Daddy's Girl. And killer child adopted into family- Mikey.

While the twist in Orphan was original it totally ruined the movie for me. a killer child is far more creepy and original than a adult who has some weird unconvincing fake syndrome to maker them look like a child.
This movie.. While predictable as hell in the first 2 acts it totally creeped me out in the 3rd act. And it was pretty much a different movie than Orphan or even The Bad Seed.

I liked both movies myself, this being my favorite of the two. But I personally don't think the Orphan was a bad movie. By the way the disease that she has is real so I'm not really sure why anyone would call it a "weird unconvincing fake syndrome". Haven't you ever seen the show Diff'rent Strokes? How do you think Gary Coleman looked so young for so many years?
