Juding from what I see on Brit TV nowadays. . .

..., she won few battles and lost the war.

.. and not a bad one at that "lexp2005"... better that opinion than "loosing the battle, but winning the war"!!!
And if that were the case, perhaps you'd be watching a "black and white BBC TV test pattern" instead of creative and imaginative tv programmes.

Self-censorship for everyone I say ... that's why the on/off and channel selector buttons on TV sets were invented!

This film reminded me what a ubiquitous bore Mary Whitehouse was and I only remember her in the 80s and she was even worse. The opening of the occasionally risqué Channel 4 sent her blood pressure racing, but by then it was a badge of honour to have Mrs Whitehouse complain about it and C4 were always happy to have on Right to Reply programmes.
If Mrs Whitehouse didn’t like it then it must be worth watching what sustained her for so long.

I had this program recorded and forgot where I put it and found it over the weekend and was looking over it again.

In America, we had an attack on comic books in the fifties to rein in the violent subject matter, which spawned Mad magazine, long story short there.

And then we had Rev. Donald Wildmon in Tupelo MS, if he is still active.

The same deal was the case with Wildmon. "If he complains about what your show is doing, then your show must be good."

But there were complaints about Last Temptation of Christ 25 or 30 years ago and no one remembers that movie for anything worthwhile.

I do wonder about a lot of these who exercise such creative freedom simply to upset people like Mary Whitehouse and Donald Wildmon. If they don't have their critics, are they just as creative?

She pretty much has partly won the war in spirit. British TV is turgid and childish, instead of relevant, imaginative, artistic or daring. Instead of 'Cathy Come Home', 'Pennies from Heaven' and 'The Devil's Crown' we have crap like 'Sherlock' and the 2005- version of 'Doctor Who' which has the depth of a children's programme.
