I don't get something

I didn't know anything about the movie before I rent it on DVD, but what I understood by the cover, it was a comedy with cave men in...many-many years B.C.,I supposed.
So the movie begins, ok, they're primitive people, fighting with cougars and stuff (although cougars didn't exist in where they were!) and suddenly we go to...the Biblical times? And at first I thought that they sort of transported through time or whatever! So, WHEN is Year One, and did really some people live like primitives in Biblical times? I thought they were all advanced by then.

Dude, stop looking to make sense of it. It's a comedy, it does not have to be historically accurate. It's a good movie. Just see it already.

There are people who live like "primitives" in 2013, so yes there certainly were hunter/gatherer tribes during biblical times.
