So freakin' hilarious...

I actually loved this movie. I've watched it like 10 times. There's a good chance I'll watch it on my computer when I'm done posting this, in fact. I get Netflix for free so I basically watch whatever I want!

I never laughed so hard at anyone till Black was eating the poop.

Definitely better than the rating would suggest. Lots of low-brow humor combined with Biblical jokes. The circumcision bit is pretty solid, and the Cain and Abel story is good too.

The poop eating had to be the fnniest thing I had ever seen, ever

- She's your sister. I mean, that would be like laying with your mother.
- Which was a big mistake. I see that now.

That line and how Black said it just cracked me up. From that moment I knew the film will be great and I wasn't disappointed. I think it was very smart movie mixed with occasional low humor, like fart jokes. But fart jokes are sometimes funny too.

I loved how Kane kept coming back into the story I thought he would just intercept them in the field and send them on their way happy to see he kept coming back and messing with them and the whole murder scene is hilarious

You can tell if they ate some sh*t.
There's a lot of sh*t in that sh*t.

the rubbing of the hairy with oil was hands down one of the funniest scenes in movie history

reply

Best comedy I have seen in a while.

reply

Yeah Cain was amusing. You knew whenever he came onscreen, something bad was going down.

One of the funniest parts was when Zed and Oh thought Cain was going to help them get Maya and Eema out of slavery. Things didn't quite work out that way after all, thanks to Cain.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Spoilers.
Absolutely.
I think if you are a Jack Black fan, he could read the telephone directory and get a laugh. IMHO.Unfortunately the critics may have been expecting too much or didn't wanna just relax and go with it. I mean - the Cain and Abel scene, sacrificing Isaac, circumcision, reading of the entrails, etc and Micheal Cera was great foil for JB. My family and I were entertained. What more could one ask for? Chill out and enjoy the human body jokes, that's wot it's there for.

.....but as empty experiences go...it's one of the best.

I thought the film was funny too, and that had to be the best line. I don't know what these haters are going on about unless they are religious and took it personally.

reply

Yeah I found this movie to be pretty funny not sure where all the hate came from.

reply

...not sure where all the hate came from.

From the haters' tiny little souls. Like some kind of irony in that.

This flick is no masterpiece, but it actually is pretty good. Anyone could find it funny though someone who knows much about the Old Testament will have a better knowledge of the biblical references and probably appreciate some of the jokes even more.
I have no idea why there is such a hate on, although I gather it often has something to do with Jack Black-haters in general. I'm not sure why these folks don't just not watch his movies and go on with their lives.

reply

I figured it would be soooo dumb, but it was indeed, freaking hilarious. There are so few really funny movies these days, sheesh.

reply

I generally don't care for slapstick "stupid" movies, but hey, it was on HBO and I watched it. It was very reminiscent of Mel Brook's History of the World - just that silly and low brow...and there's just something endearing about Jack Black's goofiness.

I thought it was fun. Not FUN, but I chuckled a bunch and I smiled quite a bit and I laughed at the outtakes. Some of Micheal Cera's lines are so low key it's a few seconds later you're saying...did he just say that? ...and chuckling, like don't eat the poop, a squirrel might have peed on it...just typing it, that's pretty darn silly.

"I jumped off a roof for you"

I loved this movie too. I wasn't a fan of it the first time I watched it, but when I watched it again I really loved it. I've seen it at least a dozen times now.

reply

Wow...I'm glad some people got something out of this, but it does baffle that anyone could find this funny. Well, Michael Cera had a few good lines, unfortunately they were spoiled in trailers. I don't mind shallow humor, nor do I mind gross-out humor, but this was just BAD. I felt sorry for the actors and Ramis for having there name attached to this, as they are all talented, but you wouldn't know it here. I mean, this is more or less a series of sketches and it's almost as bad as trainwrecks like Disaster Movie. It shows all you have to do is hire a few funny actors and people will laugh. As if having David Cross say "suck" over and over is good comedy...then top it off with both the eating of feces and peeing in your own face.

reply

Try giving it another go. The first time I watched this I was a little ho-hum about it. Had a few good laughs and liked it, but was ho-hum about it. Watched it again tonight, for the second time and I LOVED it. There are so many great moments in this movie, so many. It's silly and dumb and a hell of a lot of fun, I think a second viewing is necessary to get over the silliness some though, or maybe you just have to be in the right mood for it, but it is good stuff and under rated.

This is one of my go-to comedies, probably seen it at least 30 times and it's laugh out loud funny every time. I put it up there with Land of the Lost, Observe and Report, and The Heartbreak Kid 2007.
