does anyone know if this will be set along the lines of the James McGhee novels, I really enjoyed the Resurrectionist and thought at he time it would make a good drama. I saw the advert for this on chanel 4 last night and the term "runner" caught my ear, I can't see any writing credits going to Mcgee and only one of the charactor names is similiar so thought I'd post seeing if anyone knew anything...Typically i'm going to be out of the country anyway so am gonna miss the whole bloody series!

As far as I can see the McGee novels are set during the Napoleonic wars. This is set fifty years earlier.

The novels of Deryn Lake concern the activities of the Bow Street Runners and (Sir) John Fielding in the 1750s. They're perhaps not quite so 'earthy' as the first episode of 'City of Vice' but are packed with fascinating period detail (although not overdone) and I can recommend them if you enjoy this. The central character is actually an apothecary, John Rawlings, but Fielding and the Runners nearly always play a big part.

There's also a series by Bruce Alexander where Fielding is the central character. They're good, too.
