Appleseed 3?

Now that Appleseed ex machina has been released do you think a third installment will come out? after all there was a sequel to the first appleseed and the first one is pretty weak. the second one while flawed certainly is leaps and bounds better than the first. now sparks the question of whether or when a third appleseed will be made... any thoughts

I'm sure there will be hopefully. Aramaki planned a trilogy of three movies.

I'd say that Appleseed 2004 not a weak - it has its very tough sides - 3D Image (I think the best), Score, Story.
Considering current 2007 issue, nothing changed for bad or good in case of picture, which means guys have a good tools, to do fine product.
The only 2 things to find - score actors and script writer ;) Shall be not a big deal to find.

i might be mistaken, but somewhere on the internet, i've seen a doll of the-movies-deunan with one eye. and i'm still hoping they're saving that badass fight, where deunan goes against multiple cyborgs with her sword sized knife. i'm also hoping they find a decent script writer. plotwise, ex machina is just sad :(

That figure is actually based on Deunan from the manga. At one point in the manga, Deunan's eye is injured and she wears a patch and some equipment over her eye.

I would really like to see a third Appleseed, I think the Appleseed world has a lot of potential as do the characters particularly Deunan and Briareos. The unusual circumstances of their relationship offers a lot of potential for further development. I thought the original did a good job of introducing that idea, the challenge Deunan faced in being reunited with Briareos in a Machine body and Briareos struggling to deal with what his new body meant in regard to his relationship with Deunan. Likewise the city of Olympus itself and the roll it plays in the world offers a lot of room for further growth. The same goes for the relationship between the bioroid population and the human population struggling to achieve balance. In the original film they only really scratched the surface of these concepts though and I always hoped they would delve deeper into that element of the story rather than focusing the bulk of the plot on saving the world from a rather absurd catastrophe. I think the appeal of Appleseed has far more to do with the challenges of integrating high technology into human beings much as was the case with Ghost in the Shell. What makes it interesting is the characters struggling to deal with the man/machine dynamic.

While I enjoyed Ex Machina and felt that it explored some of the elements that the original only introduced, to me, it ended a bit weak in terms of the character development. The introduction of Tereus put both Deunan and Briareos in a challenging situation that really could have been interesting but it never really amounted to anything. It seems that the conflict is over almost as it begins, it makes for some fun little scenes and disputes but doesn't amount to anything substantial. Just as the first Appleseed, I felt this one only just began to tap the potential of the characters and their story.

If a third movie is made I hope the problem will have far more to do with Olympus' struggle to adapt and cope with its role as an intermediary in an unstable world. Also I would like to see it focusing on the characters and dealing with smaller scale missions within the city. I am not a big fan of end of the world type scenarios and having multiple in a series only weakens the concept further. I believe a plot focusing on smaller high technology related crime would be far more interesting. Personally, I think the Appleseed world has so much untapped potential that it would be better put into a tv-series but for now I would settle for a third movie.

Good news everyone....
Ther will be a series this year. It was announced a some weeks ago.
As far as i know one company which was involved in the production of this movie will making it, so that means the series is in 3d.
I just hope that they'll get an able writer who stays closer to the original.

I just heard an advert for the third Appleseed movie, it's called Vexille. It takes place further in the future in 2077. Reviews are mixed and say it's visually better than the second but with a hodge-podge plot.

I'm still looking forward to see it.
