The clothes weren't that great. Deunan's party dress was hideous. I loved this movie...the clothes, not so much! It looks crazy and contrived. It actually looks hokey and infantile like something from the old cartoon Beverly Hills Teens.
Prada, Smah-da! A high end designer name doesn't mean Jack Crap...I now see.

Not to wish to start an argument (far too many IMDB threads quickly degenerate into childish rants) but I actually quite liked Deunan's party dress, especially the headpiece. The other Prada outfit was merely "OK". IMHO Deunan's best outfit is the one she wears after the opening set-piece (when she's on her bike).
What do you think of Athena's earrings? I like the way they sway when she moves her head.

I did like the sack dress that she wore...that really was the only outfit I liked!! Oh, the hair cuts were pretty great too.

The clothing in the Appleseed films is pretty much in keeping with the original comics. If you look at Shirow's sartorial concoctions your sensitive little eyes will surely be damaged. He even says in one of his books that he doesn't like to copy stuff out of fashion magazines, but to come up with his own weird creations. I agree that a lot of the stuff looks terrible, but it's part of the Appleseed visual style.

The party dress was awful, especially the headpiece. I didn't read about the Prada design until after the movie, so when Deunan walked into the party I was really wondering what her hideous costume was supposed to be about.
The other problem with her dress is that it showed her too skinny legs. Now I realize that body sizes in anime are rarely realistic (was it the first Appleseed movie were all the females had size E breasts?) but Deunan would have fairly muscular legs if she's able to do all those jumping moves.
