PBS replaced Jakers! with this???

I'm sorry but I find this show really annoying. I understand the concept and it's a great concept, but I much preferred Jakers to this.

Maybe it's because Piggley has a voice that doesn't grate on the ears...since I can't stand it when "Martha Speaks".

reply

that's ok, i had the same reaction whenever Piggley's duck friend Dannon(sp?)
would talk.

Personally, i like Martha's voice.

Each their own, etc..

reply

Yeah, Dannan's voice is pretty annoying. Generally she doesn't talk all too much though and the entire shows isn't based around her..since it's not the "Adventures of Dannan O'Malley". But I agree, to each their own. PBS will figure out soon enough if the new programming is working for them or not anyways. Seems like the shows change almost every year (either being moved to a different day or time slot or being removed completely). :)

reply

we never had jakers... not sure what it is.

with the new lineup, we lost mr. rogers.

personally, i wish to god we'd have lost caillou. talk about an annoying voice.

reply

Although we liked Jakers!, I do like this show, too. Martha's voice reminds me of Ellen DeGeneres in "Finding Nemo" LOL.

reply

oh my gosh, i thought the exact thing when i saw the first preview. when she says "would you like me to tell you what that dog is saying in dog? he's saying 'hey! hey you! hey!'" or whatever he's saying. just that line reminded me of something ellen would say.

T O M - Martha Speaks is a big HIT - never heard of Jakers - not even sure our local PBS affiliate aired that show. I agree with the user who wrote Martha's voice reminds them of Dory from "Finding Nemo" - hardly what I would call grating. I find Martha's voice to sound quite 'doglike' in that it is not smooth and cultured. The show is absolutely adorable and the animation in HD large screen is spectacular... with a near 3-D feel - and refreshingly NON-CGI. The concept of this show is as you said 'great' and I've found that even adults like this show... that aids in learning as well. Maybe you are annoyed no one liked Jakers and seem to love this show... as do I - lol.

i VAGUELY remember Jakers, but definitely love Martha Speaks.. 4 years on and it's going strong still! My kids love it, and they aren't even old enough to appreciate some of the vocab!

reply

Sorry Ted, but the show is CGI-it's done in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada by Studio B Productions, a noted CGI studio. The reason it doesn't seem like CGI to you is because of the way it's animated to look like ordinary pen-and-ink cel animation. Trust me, it's CGI.
