excellent

This movie has everything--action, drama, humor, sexy girls and guys, interesting characters who are both recognizable and yet unique, and who sweep you into the story. The lead actor was excellent; looking him up on IMDB, I was surprised to find that this is his first full-length movie. His facial expressions were impressive, communicating great depths in all the emotions that the story demands.

Special mention should go to Flaco Navaja, who plays his friend Mafi, an aspiring rapper. The character is really funny, and the actor adds a lot of energy and spontaneity to the role. I think what makes this movie great, though, is that not only the main characters but also the minor ones seem to have a life of their own. They don't just walk into the scene and do their part to advance the plot and then disappear; they each seem to have their own story, they seem to be coming from somewhere, and you can believe that they have known each other for years.

The story is in the "out of the barrio" tradition, like Carlito's Way or Manito or even the Godfather movies. The theme has been done many times before but it didn't feel tired or cliche or derivative. It was fresh, unique, heart-felt, del mero corazon. A riveting experience.
