Scott Adkins was FANTASTIC in this film

He was so insanely badass, he easily gave the best performance in the film. The movie begins with Adkins routing a kingdom and he does battle with the opposing king. He brought a lot of fury and brutality to that action scene.

And then in his older days throughout the movie, he just barks the dialog with amazing intensity, every word dripping with hatred. His performance was very dynamic.

This guy really is a very good actor. Needs to be in more theatrical movies.

Not only does he now have improved acting, the guy is an amazing martial arts actor as well. He's done stunt work in the past and then did plenty of his own martial arts movies.

I'd trade out Jason Statham for Scott Adkins.

Agreed! He was the only good thing about this movie. In mythology hercules is one of my favourites, I'd rather watch disney's hercules than this very poor movie. Also $70 mill? Where did it go? The ridiculous lion or the light-sabre-whip sword? The pacing, the music, the acting...it took a lot to finish this movie.

So far I've seen 300 rise of an empire, hercules and I guess pompeii is next. Hopefully that won't be sh*t as well.

Couldn't agree more. The only performance in the movie by a character that didn't make me cringe.

Scott is mostly known for his marital arts,i am glad he has proved himself as actor, I agree he deserves to be in theatrical action films

You guys are confusing fighting stunt work with acting. Scott is no actor

reply

completely agree!
Don't even know this guy, only knew who Lutz was... and both are horribly bad actors.

I kept thinking to myself, as I watch the first 5 minutes of krap...
who is this dude that keeps screaming and smiling...
screaming at the lightning bolt that hits at his feet after he storms out of the tent his wife gets impregnated by Zeus...

hahah
this whole movie is laughable!
very SCI-FI worthy... oh lawd

Did they actually spend $70 Million on this krap.
It felt more like watching a Spoof on Hercules.

Suck a dick monkey boy.

We get it. You're Scott's secret gay lover, but that's no reason to be rude, you silly twink!

Whenever I ever hear people say that Adkins is a bad actor, they never ever can explain why. Just more kneejerk film snobbery from keyboard warriors. Lutz was weak, but Adkins stole every scene he was in. Bad movie yeah, but his acting wasn't that bad at all. He can play a brit an american a russian. He is very talented and I'm not even talking about how he is one of the most promising martial artist action stars ever. He really should get more big movie action roles.
When I was in film school, I would often hear classmates rip apart various major film actors and actresses and then when it came for us to do acting exercises, I would just watch these self proclaimed acting critics fumble over their lines and blatantly overact. LOL

Scott Adkins is mostly known for his performance as Yuri Boyka in Undefeated 2 and 3. Although I never truly believe he will ever become an oscar-worthy actor, he is more than qualified to be an action star in Hollywood. He is a decent looking fella and the most important part of all, he is physically gifted and can perform his own action stunts.

But I'm afraid that Hollywood prefers to pass off "pretty boys" as action stars in today's world. Just think about it...they are trying to shove the likes of Channing Tatum or Kellen Lutz down our throats as action stars but in reality the only audience they attract are fan girls who would rather watch a love movie.

If Scott Adkins was asian and made films in Asia, he would be a super star over there by now. America prefers their pretty guys.

OP: "This guy really is a very good actor. Needs to be in more theatrical movies."

He is very good indeed and will soon be on the big screen in Criminal, with the reunited 'JFK trio' of Costner, Lee Jones and Oldman. Still in an action role but the fact he was cast in a character-driven thriller (as opposed to all out action) bodes well for his future options.

I liked Scott Adkins in this as well, but he just seemed too overly macho in the beginning, especially during the initial fight scene (honestly, who purposely sticks their sword into the ground to fight a sword-wielding enemy unarmed?) and the way he screams at Zeus in the sky after discovering the god having his way with his wife. He seemed to be having what TV Tropes call Testosterone Poisoning in those scenes. I don't fault Scott for this but I do fault the fight choreographer and Harlin for it.

I agree that he was over-the-top macho in the beginning but I actually thought that was a strength of his performance, not a weakness. This is a B movie so to say and Adkins was giving exactly what the part need - some bluster and machismo to make for a formidable enemy for Hercules. The scene where he choke slams the King Of Argos, beheads him and roars with fury was I thought incredibly badass but probably the best action scene of the film.

Adkins said in the beginning when he was playing the younger version of the character he was going for a very heroic version - he explicitly mentioned 300. I think it was definitely similar to Gerard Butler's famously over the top macho performance as King Leonidas in 300, the appearance too infact was similar - the short cropped hair, the big beard, the ultra defined abs and musculature, the booming voice, etc. etc.

I think sword and sandal films are the place to pull off such a performance if anywhere and I think Adkins pulled it off admirably. Infact I think he was so good that he absolutely over-shadowed Kellan Lutz in the lead role in every way.
