y'all need to calm down

all the haters need to quit

If this show is racist then so was the chapelle show, the boondocks, in living color, eddy murphy's stand up, chris rock's stand up, richard pryor's stand up... and a host of other examples

In the case of chocolate news specifically: I assume the haters here have difficulty detecting satire.

This is a satrical commentary onamerican black culture and Afrocentric news and entertainment. Case in point would be the title itself and IMO colbert-esque host dag portrays (if colbert were black and about anything and everything and anything black instead of simply politics... A character dag says he based on tavis smiley if he were funny)

I love how "serious" and mildly militant dag's host character is (like his stone cold serious face juxtaposed with over the top statements he makes... And that "and we're black..." that he says after a commercial break)

Ive enjoyed the commentary dag has made on the show thus far i.e. His opening monologue last week telling us to hold on just one more week and not lose our damned minds before election day and the current state of hip hop in those PSA ads his rapper character did (similar to "booty sweat" in tropic thunder... It sounded a lot like the stuff that's out today)

I agree. We laugh ourselves sick over this show.

As DAG himself said in the promos for the show..." It's only racist, if you are!" Well said. Just for the record, I'm a middle aged white guy and I think this is one of the funniest shows on right now.

Yup, Grier is right. It's a black man pointing out what's funny about the black media, someone had to deflate those rappers egos. That's the same thing as the boondocks, another hilarious show.
I was actually surprised by how much funnier this show is than I expected...although the thing about Obama wearing a tracksuit the day after winning the election was lame. So he wears something comfortable when he goes out to get the paper or jog or something, so what? But excluding the random unfunny sketch (which ANY show is going to have once in a while), it's a pretty funny show to relax to at the end of the day...

My husband and I have watched this show since the beginning, and its hilarious!. People are so serious about everything nowadays. Laughing is good for the soul. We all need to laugh and not be so judgemental and argumentive about everything> Not all the skits are funny, but most of them are.

I didn't like Chappelle's racist stuff. he didn't get funny until season 2 when he started doing straight comedy (Prince, Rick James,)

I've grown to dig this, too. It's kinda of hit or miss, as are Tim and Eric, Reno
911, and, sad to say, season 4 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
But when it's good (America's Top Black Preacher) it's Right On.

I've been a DAG fan for years and he really shines in this show. Sure, some of the skits are juvenile/sophomoric/ridiculous (Toots to Poots, anyone? :p), but y'know...he did come from In Living Color, which was very much the same at times. This is like a natural extension, I feel. It is also by the same crew that made MadTV, so you should sort of know what to expect.

The difference between Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock's performances and this show is that Chocolate News is not funny when dealing with race. However, the other performers are able to bring comedy to racism, and not just by criticizing "Whitey", but all races, African American included. Dave Chappelle is a perfect example, his show wasn't completely based on race, even though the skits he did about race were in good taste and at least comedic. All Grier does is make fun of white people or portray any white person as a racist.

I love and miss this show. The comedy is clever at times and in your face at other times. I know my friends and family totally crack up at some of the ignorant things we recognize is being satirized. I agree with the OP..lighten up already. Its too bad that its gone.

The people saying on here "everyone needs to calm down, relax, it's just a joke", live in another world. Anytime a white person says a joke about a black person, it's "racist". Than you watch this show, and the jokes about white people are just "jokes, and it's in good fun". If the black people wouldn't be hypocrites, than this show could have been good.
