Although it wasn't brought up in the film, a lot of music was stolen from Aftican American singers by white singers who paid no royalties.

Led Zeppelin - Muddy Waters
Beach Boys - Chuck Berry
Pat Boone - Little Richard
Elvis Presley - Willie Mae Thorton

I doubt that this would happen these days.

Led Zeppelin stole a lot and seems to be able to continuously get away with it.
