Minnie Riperton

I saw her name in the credits and I dont recall her in the movie even remotely.
I even looked up the actress that played her and I dont recall her face at all in the movie.

Maybe they played one of her songs though I don't recall hearing any of them. She didn't have anything to do with this era... not sure why she would be mentioned. She came along in the mid to late 70's and this was 50 & 60's.

Well, she was in a girl group signed to Chess called Rotary Connection, but I think that was the late 60s.

reply

O... then that was the Minnie Riperton before my time....

Rotary Connection wasn't a girl group. Minnie was the only "girl" in the group.

That's true, but Rotary Connection was on Chess Records early on. One of back-up singers shown was supposed to be Minnie Riperton.

reply

Minnie Ripperton was a backup singer for the label while she was still in high school.

reply

Correct. And before Rotary Connection, she was indeed part of a girl group on the label called The Gems.

But what part of the movie was she in? I had to google her to find out that she was the receptionist. When do they mention that she was Minnie Ripperton?

reply

Same here. I was equally surprised to see that Phil Chess was portrayed after all, and neither do I recall a 6-year old Muddy as mentioned in the credits. Watched this on TV rather than a DVD, so can only assume there must be a few deleted scenes if you get the DVD...
