Her acting im swept away was amazing! a few scencs were a little OTT but that and Evita where just amazing! I cant wait for this film! I heard a story sayin that she's being a complete bitch on set to all the crew, if it's tru. i love her even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She was good in Swept Away. The film is not a "popcorn" film - rather a thought provoking piece of social commentary - and extremely hard to digest and some parts are pretty out of the mainstream.
i thought it was good. The ending was extremely impressive.
Why did the movie fail? Because the critics do not want to see Madonna succeed. That;s all.

i agree with you completely. Her acting in Swept Away was real good. the subject matter is very uncomfortable. It's not a middle of the road movie, but also not out and out violent macho film. It's extremely thought provoking. Which the media choose sweep under the carpet and instead, go for the cheap, irresponsible journalism that had been so evident in this day and age, and take Madonna to the dryers.
The ending was soooo annoyingly unsatisfying, so un-hollywood BUT so good and believeable.
Lost gem!

It has to be Evita!!!!!!!!!!!! Her preformance was just stunning! Especially 'you must love me' - that song still makes me cry! :) Her role in swept away was just perfect casting! I really think that the critics didnt give it the respect it deserved! the ending was fantastic! directed and filmed beautifuly and the acting was outstanding!!!

As much as I love Madonna 'Swept Away' sucked BIG TIME...like most of her movies do. She aint a good actress, period. Anybody that says she is is an idiot.

I hope directing will be far more succesfull for her. We'll see if she's good at it when 'Filth and Wisdom' comes out.

She is unwatchable as an "actress". Swept Away and Evita were abysmal. Whatever human accessibility she demonstrated in Desperately Seeking Susan vanished. It's hard to imagine she'll improve as a director.

Her best acting job in a film is, by far, "A League Of Their Own." She also gives commendable performances in "Evita," "Dangerous Game" and "Desperately Seeking Susan." She's not bad in "Dick Tracy" either.

She was at her best in Desperately Seeking Susan.
I liked Who's That Girl. She was in total character.
I don't remember her much in Dick Tracy, I'd have to get a DVD.
She was good in A League of Their Own.
She was good in Body of Evidence. It was just that the whole Sex Book-Erotica thing going on that people were just fed up to the max. And the plot of the movie was kind of silly. It wasn't her acting that bombed the film.
She was also good in Dangerous Game. The film is a bit of exhaustion to watch though.
I watched her nervously in Four Rooms and Girl 6, which she cameo appeared, but I think she did a ok-good job in them.
She absolutely was great in Evita, as she is in all of her music videos.
She seemed pretty relaxed in The Next Best Thing, but still, she wasn't good enough to be convincing.
She was ok in the first half of Swept Away where she was being a total bitch, but the second half where she was being vulnerable and emotional, she could not, again, be convincing.

All and all, I think she could be a good actor if she's directed right.
But I'm glad that she's finally directing a film. She has been dreaming about it for quite a while.
I hope I get to see it somewhere.

You know,people criticise her acting,have you ever thought that it could be the WRITING and the EDITING that's to blame ??.You can't fault her performances in Desperately seeking Susan and Evita,especially the latter !.

I read that Shanghai surprise,for example,was edited alot, and Sean Penn and Madonna liked the way the film was before it was edited,so if it hadnt been cut down so much,it could have been a good film.I personally like it,since it stars Sean and Madonna together,and it's interesting to see them together a film.

I haven't seen Body of evidence,or Swept away,to examples of films with bad reviews,but from what i've read about them,it could be down to the writing.

I also like Madonna in Who's that girl ?.That film actually did alot better here in the U.K than in America.Without meaning to offend,i do think that British people can be more down to earth and have a better sense of humour,which is probably why we enjoyed the film more.I've even read a couple of posts from Americans on here saying the same thing on what I just said about British people !
