Why was Desiree mad at Duke?

I really enjoy this movie. But I can never figure why Desiree is upset with Duke. What am I missing?

Well, from what I gathered, she was pissed when Duke ran off the bus and hid in the bushes. Thus leaving her and everyone, but mostly HER, to die. She had more character cause she pleaded with the others, to make sure they DIDN'T leave Duke when they got the bus started. And for the record, if my man did that, I'd knock his ass out too.
