U Me Aur Hum - First Look - First Promo

The IndiaFM website described it as 'superbly shot'. I don't disagree... it does look good. The song in the trailer seems to have a salsa number running in its background, it feels fresh. All in all, my first opinion of the trailer is that it's stylish. Here's hoping we're treated to a fantastic experience exactly three months from today.

The promo is pretty good, with only a few minor kinks.

I am a Media Studies student, so I have a few thoughts:

1- The teaser leads the viewer to believe that the entire story is set on the boat, which is not the case. It needs to be made more clear that the film spans across a longer period of time than just one weekend on a boat, which is how it currently appears. If the film is an epic love story, a score needs to be used. To capture an NRI audience, scoring in the trailer is VERY important. Just using one song throughout the ENTIRE teaser makes the film seem stagnant. A score used juxtaposed against images relating to the timeline of the film would be good. The film seems like a fun romance, not a sweeping epic.

2- If the film is going to be promoted as a fun young romance, there are major problems. Both stars, though incredible actors, look slightly aged in the footage, hence confusing the audience. It is slightly reminiscent of that film Aarzoo, where Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit (35 at the time) played a bubbly college student. The film needs to be promoted as a love story, not a bubblegum romance.

3- The song used in the promo, though melodic and beautiful, doesn't really create a "MUST SEE" thought in the viewers mind. A more young and fresh song should have been used if the whole "bubblegum romance" marketing technique stays.

4- Another big problem is that neither the poster nor the teaser capitalize upon the star power the film has. When audiences really react to a big film, it is when the stars names are used to close out the promo. For example, toward the end, the names Ajay Devgan and Kajol should have been integrated into the montage. When you look at ALL successful romance films, whether in India or Abroad, especially Abroad, the audience feels more connected to the film if the stars' names are banners on top of the poster.
