Fun, but full of problems.

For a short, "Heartland" does a pretty good job of telling a story, and it brings up a facet of gay life that we don't see represented on film too much, so good for that. But I had a few issues with the film that kept me from really enjoying it.

I found the narration in this film, especially in the beginning, particularly jarring - the way the actor reads them strikes me as rather detached and matter-of-fact, which takes away from the impact of what is actually being said.

And, speaking of the narration in the beginning, how exactly does one go about majoring in "cultural anthropology with a visual emphasis"? The implication seemed to be that he was documenting his gay life in New York, presumably for some sort of thesis. However, speaking as a student of a school of about the same caliber as Columbia, I have to point out that it takes a whole lot more than that to succeed in cultural anthropology.
