Quite possibly the best reality programming I've ever seen.

To be honest, I'm sort of glad this only went one season. Shows like Survivor were ruined for me because they just kept going on and on and on. This show had its run, had AMAZING kids, and couldn't have been better in my eyes. To watch another season just wouldn't have felt the same. By the end of the show, those kids felt like MY kids. We watched them suffer, watched them fight, watched them cry, and watched them grow. Forget all the issues with child labor laws and cruel treatment, this show had a heart and a message, and taught what life is about. That, coupled with the *real* reactions and emotions provided by these kids (and not the stupid crap you see in adult-based reality programming) made this quite possibly the best reality show I've ever seen.

Amen.

I agree about how good it is but I really want another season.

I thought it was good too. I think it would be good for classroom study.

Not to burst your bubble, but this show was about as "real" as my dreams last night.

Many of the kids were wannabe-actors, and were you aware that after showdowns, the kids were allowed to shower in real bathroom facilities, and were given a full catered meal? (This was never shown on camera) Doesn't sound like the Wild West to me.

Who cares. This show was hilarious and actually hit a ton of society issues. I wrote a 12 page college paper covering class system, racial issues, cultural backgrounds, depiction of drinking, socialism, etc. This was a great look at society represented through children in a reality TV show. Bravo CBS to have the balls to do this.

My niece (big Kid Nation fan) stumbled across the MySpace page of one of the camera/sound crew members for Kid Nation, and he's got a few pics posted of the crew, and a few shots of the show. The only one that's really interesting is a shot of one camera/sound boom crew filming during the little snowstorm that hit Bonanza City the first week they were there. It looks like they're taking the shot where some of the boys find out that the pump was frozen, but you can't really tell. You can see a kid or two behind the camera, but you can't really tell who it is. (Randi or Sophie, maybe?)

Anyhow, here's the link:

That looks like Randi.

I completely agree. I gad such an emotional connection with the kids throughout and it was an amazing journey for me from start to finish. It was the best reality TV I had ever watched!
