Almost like a sci-fi movie

I know gated communities are rather common around the world (see the Wikipedia article). But still this movie seemed like sci-fi, almost. There are quite a number of sci-fi movies that depict a divided society that's somewhat similar to the one depicted in La Zona (movies like Upside Down, Elysium). So it was interesting to see a similar-themed movie, which is not sci-fi. I do believe the autonomy of the zone-community was overdone a bit in La Zona. That's why the movie had a bit of a sci-fi feeling. But overall, it was quite realistic.
