Absolutely nothing! Except someone reading a few lines from the beginning of The Tomb during the movie. Couldn't the money spent on this poor attempt to rip off SAW have been better spent on actually attempting to make ...*sarcastic gasp* an actual movie of a Lovecraft story??? It seems Lovecraft's name is nothing more than a way to sell extremely below par horror movies. If you see a movie title start with "H P Lovecraft's...", beware!
Unfortunately, H. P. Lovecraft's name has fallen to the same usage as the National Lampoon brand: a lure used to try and sucker the unwary into renting barely watchable tripe. The sad truth is, any decent attempt to film a Lovecraft tale would require not only some sort of reasonable budget, but also some amount of creativity and intelligence on the part of the filmakers. Both of these qualities are in very short supply in the "shoot it quick, keep it cheap, and unload it on video" era.
What confuses me is why they didn't just try to make a low budget version of the real story of The Tomb. You need a cave, old rusty door in the side of a hill, ruins of some mansion or castle, some townsfolk in an old pub. The rest they could manufacture. Have someone with a good voice to narrate from the story to add the Lovecraft touch.
I just saw the case for this at "Family Vieo" and I thought "Woah, I like the Lovecraft story a lot" so I read the back, and was pretty much pissed after I read the synapsis, and who it was directed by.. Way to drag the name of Lovecraft further through the mud.
You know what hurts worst? That after reading The Tomb I thought, 'Wow, someone should make a movie out of this.' I guess I got my wish... unfortunately. This is like that episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark - the one with the crow's foot.
Ulli Lommel (or 'Dyson' as he's know in the film trade, for his phenomenal ability to suck continuously) should take up some really dangerous hobbies like 'underwater glue sniffing' or 'bitch slapping box jellyfish'.What an utterly clueless tw*t he is.
