Why couldn't the angels just possess the diner people

The angels could only possess the weak willed folk. The people in the diner were too strong. Or it may be that due to the vicinity of the diner folk to the baby, they couldn't be taken over. The old lady and co had to driver from far away from the diner.

You are trying to apply logic to a movie that doesn't have a lot of internal logic.

It's a good try, too, but it doesn't hold up. Everyone in the diner was "strong willed?" That's unlikely, especially given how some of their stories went.

If the baby's presence prevented possession, why didn't the old lady get unpossessed when she came in?

It holds up fine. Bad decisions in life don't equal weak minded. If your looking for holes. you'll find them. Even if they only make sense to you.

Frankly autocorrect, I'm getting a little tired of your shirt

Maybe those in the diner were there for a reason? I don't mean to eat, maybe something chose certain stronger individuals to protect the sprog?

reply

Because that wouldn't have made for a very entertaining movie.

- Everyone hides in the diner, everyone gets possessed, angels eat the baby, the end.

I thought it had something to do with angels only possessing people that "welcomed" them.

The possessed could just be very religious people that wouldn't know what was really going on and welcomed the angel in when it came knocking.

Because. Then there wouldn't be a movie.
