Is this a common practice in korea? My Teacher Mr Kim deals with a similiar thing, and I was wondering if this actually happens?

yeah it happens...it's not common (keep in mind he was a gangster)....but bribery is found in many aspects of korean society
in the past parents would often give teachers "gifts", but the government and education office has tried to stop it
Thank you very much! Yes, had I just seen this movie, I would have taken it as his gangster persona, but I saw it in others as well (most prominently in My Teacher Mr Kim) and got to wondering about it.
Just judging from films, the education system seems a tad bit harsher in Korea than other Asian lands.
