Rain's reaction at the end was underwhelming

I don't know; it didn't give me the "feel good" ending I expected after their reunion.

Now all their memories are a figment of his imagination and they have to start over. I guess this was necessary to keep her from being ridiculed as insane?

Great movie otherwise, I just felt oddly bittersweet at the end

Plus, being stuck in 1979!? With no internet!? Agh

I don't think not having internet is a big deal, considering only Rain can see Jay and he has no way of going back (assuming he can't due to the piano not existing anymore in the future).

Everyone can see Jie Lun. Hence the class photo.

Her reaction was underwhelming because she didn't know him. He's just some random guy that came into her classroom. Just some new kid to her.

I think the actress played the scene very obliquely on purpose, so that those who wanted to think she would recognize Jay might have some reason to, and that those who believe Jay returned early enough so that Rain hadn't found the music and travelled forward in time yet (or died) could also think that if they wanted to. It's left up to your own interpretation.

To me the key scene is the school snapshot at the very end. Rain and Jay are standing right next to one another, both look happy and healthy. Whether Rain recognized him or not when he showed up it is abundantly clear from that last shot that they became so close they stood together for the class shot, with big smiles on their faces.
