Jeffrey Ross - Flavor Flav spat?

All in good fun? Didn't seem like it. Anyone have inside info?

reply

I was wondering the same thing! Jeff and Flav looked genuinly pissed... Hmmm...

Why did he single out Jeffery Ross to call racist? EVERY White comedian told racist jokes. I think he just doesn't like Jeffery Ross.

No I think Flav was calling him out and was right to call him on it even though I don't think Ross knew any better. A lot of white people don't realize that 'Uncle Tom' is almost as offensive as the N word. He said one other thing that crossed the line but I can't remember it right now.
His was the only routine that might be considered by some to be outright racist IMO although the whole thing was kind of awkward.
Please note that I said IMO so I'm not going to waste time arguing with anyone about it.
Peace

There's no such thing as "crossing the line" here. In a roast, there IS NO line.

I'm black . . . all I have to say is, if you can't take the heat at one of those roasts, don't sign up for it.

Katt Williams said it best "I'ma be whoopin ya azz all night, this is a muthaf$#kin roast".

That being said, I hope it was scripted . . . I mean didn't somebody say Flav looks like Idi Amin on a 3 year crack binge . . . that was awful lol.

reply

that was a bit no doubt. no one was offended. anyone who gets offended at a roast looks awful...just look at the flavor of love girls.

They also called them prostitutes which I thought was hilarious!

reply

Well, they are what they are. And what is with the "crossing the line" thing. Its a ROAST. It really isn't that big of a deal and you are not supposed to take things so seriously. Have a sense of humour.

reply

[deleted]

Are you kidding me??? All you people sitting here sayings it's no big deal must not be black. Any kind of racist comment is a big deal. Even if it was all in fun. I mean all those stupid jokes about him being so black that wasen't a big deal cause odviously he is black. But to bring up a refrence about "Uncle Tom"..You guys need to go learn who and what Uncle Tom was about...If you noticed Flav was trying to laugh it off just like evryone else, but odviously it pissed him off..

reply

You're a fnckin moron. They were doing a line from Fight the Power together.

Does anyone really think the Flavor Flav has the ability to ad-lib? It was clearly a scripted joke, but since his delivery is so horrible, I can see where the confusion would lie.

As for Ross's looking pissed - he always feigns anger whenever a barb is thrown in his direction. That's his MO at these roasts.

Roasting Flavor Flav and NOT using racial humor is akin to roasting Pamela Anderson and not bringing up the sex video - it's impossible.

reply

...its a roast. They demean with comedy, that is the point. Stop trying to censor everything and grow some damn balls and GEt over it.

reply

Why - they are?

reply

I don't think there's beef. I read an interview with Ross a couple of days ago, and he mentioned that: 1. He'd never met Flav before, and 2. He'd run the jokes off other roasters. He didn't mention anythin about a spat.

reply

I wonder if they cut out part of Jeffrey Ross's jokes. Remember when Carrot Top told a watermelon joke, and said that Ross had said it earlier, but I don't remember him saying it.

Although it is a roast, there is a line that shouldn't be crossed. The non-black comedians had to walk the line between being funny and not being racist. I didn't really find offense, but I'm also a fan of comedians like Paul Mooney, Nick Dipaulo, Andrew Dice Clay, and Don Rickles. They know how to make fun of all races so that it's not just one-sided.

As funny as the show was, it's good for us to make fun of each other. Believe it or not, Black people have a pretty good sense of humor and we don't riot or protest every time there is a Black joke told by a white comedian. Just make sure the joke is funny!

"I'd buy that for a dollar!!"

reply

Does anyone know Public Enemy anymore? Flavor Flav and Jeffrey Ross weren't angry and Flavor Flav wasn't offended. He called him racist because he was quoting his song Fight the Power IT WAS A JOKE.

reply

exactly. jeff's last words, i believe, were, 'fight the power', which leads to flavor's response of the lyrics back to jeff.

reply

It wasn't racist. Why do people have to make everything out to be racist now days. They complain about racism, yet they make big deals and claim racism to things that arent even racist.

reply

I'm a Black man, and I do admit that not every single thing that's done to us is born of racism. But to deny that racism exists is like living in a fantasy world. As long as there are people on this planet there will be racism, sexism, agesim, bigotry and intolerance. It's inbred into society nearly everywhere in this world.

There were quite a few racist jokes on the show (1 including the watermelon reference) and there were even some stereotyping of jews as well. That's a fact. The jokes were funny and was part of a roast, and that is expected. I'm not a person to be offended easily and I laughed at a lot of them.

Alot of people get that, I think it's Ross reaction where he stood up and yelled that was uncalled for. I think either something got edited out, or it was Jeffrey Ross that wasn't familiar with lyrics, even if he referenced the song earlier. He problem thought he was being called out, and had it explained to him later.

As for any of this being Racist, the only thing racist is a double standard. If you are going to complain about white people making black jokes, you have to complain when it's the opposite. Comedy is meant to funny though, no one is trying to further their racist agenda by doing stand up, they are just trying to make people laugh.

reply

Guys, watch the other roasts. In every one of them, Jeffrey Ross at some point stands up in protest at something that is said about him. It's part of the act. He was not pissed, nor was Flavor Flav.

reply

anyone got a link to this part of the show ? Where Flav gets up there and talks or something ?

reply

Iooked, he had to be familiar with the lyrics since he yelled "mother *beep* him and John Wayne" with Flavor Flav. I think he yelled pretending to be offended because Flavor Flav was so unfunny and was trying to hard.

It looked legit to me for a few reaons, 1) Jeffrey Ross appeared embarrassed and uncomfortable from the get go (on that note, what's the deal, I don't recall other roasts being this ugly towards the other attendees - usually the vile is directed solely at the guest of dishonor), 2) Flav's venom was cut short by the editors so it clearly went on and/or he said something very bad, 3) over the credits he says thank you for coming to someone standing with Jeffrey Ross but makes a point of not looking a Jeffrey Ross. My guess is that a lot of the comments stuck to this loser 50 year old more than he cared to let on - notice how black/white the night became with the two rappers basically slapping Flav on the wrist while completely disrespecting the white roasters. This should have been called Honkey Roast.

Every roast tends to go around the room insulting everyone. Sometimes the guest of honor is lucky to even get a mention. That's why they invite people like Carrot Top, he's not that funny, he's just there so everyone else can make fun of him.

I thought Ross said some stuff that was over the line, he was no longer making fun of Flav for being Flav, he was making fun of Flav for being black and he was making fun of black people in general. They kept cutting back to Katt and Ice-T who were grinning but it felt fake, like if they weren't in front of witnesses they'd have beat his ass.
