Kunis ruined the movie

Denzel doing his best as usual, then she comes along and kills the vibe of the movie. Mila just played Mila.

Loved her in THAT 70s Show, but not in a movie like this. Her acting took me outta the movie.

What did you think?

I agree i find her to be a wooden actress , also the end why show her walking like that so she dresses like eli but she has no god protecting her as he supposedly did and second he was a combat master she is not so its pointless making look like she has turned into him in a way.

Perhaps it is meant to be seen as symbolic? It could be that his "talents, abilities, and/or protection via a deity" are transferred from him to her. Also dressing like a man, or looking less feminine in general, would help protect her from rape and other things a lone female might be subject to in this dystopian environment.

These are just my take on the change of attire. The only real problem is that Mila is so much smaller than Denzel (in both the movie and real life) that she would have had to tailor the clothes just to allow them not to fall off of her.

Good observation.

Yeah, I'm sure tight pants would convince them all not to rape and or eat her.

Wut???

I thought it was a dumb ending too.

reply

It sounds more like your preconceived notions took you out of the movie. Rewatch the scene where Carnegie is questioning her about her prayer and the book or the scene where Eli recites from Psalms or the walking montage after she was nearly raped. I thought she did an excellent job.

Most stars are just being themselves with some slight variations of intensity or humility. Indie movies ask the audience to embrace the character not the actor. Even the Oscar winners are barely passable for a breakthrough performance. It's all hype.
Sorry to see IMDB close these boards down Friday. Please post any other sites that have msg bids, I can deal with the venom and trolls.

I would say some actors prove their merit with some films they have made.

Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler https://moviechat.org/tt2872718/Nightcrawler was so good I was completely absorbed by his character. His sister Maggie Gyllenhaal said that Lou Bloom's mannerisms and character was so different from her brother that she herself forgot she was watching her brother at times during the film. That speaks volumes to how good Gyllenhaal acted in that movie.

As for Kunis, I like her as an actor and she can act, but theres not a film yet where I see the character she plays more than the actress herself.

I thought she was fine as far as acting. But somehow she didn't seem to fit into that world. But it definitely wasn't something that ruined the movie for me.

reply

I really liked her in this movie. I loathed her in black swan (her bad acting was evident in that). In this movie she was sympathetic somehow. Her and Denzel had a real father daughter vibe onscreen.

reply

Never heard any bad things about her performance from Black Swan except you. I personally thought she should have been nominated an Oscar.

reply

I thought she was fine. I am actually glad she had her actions in post apocalypse film with Denzel Washington.

reply

One detail that bothered me about her is that her appearance was so glamorous. Her hair, for example, looked clean and fresh, like she stepped out of a salon. And her skin was smooth and white. It didn’t fit with the rest of the movie’s atmosphere.

reply

I thought she was the worst character on "That 70's Show", very annoying.

reply

I agree but I can look past it as she was only 15 years old when she started That 70s Show.
