In English it is just an expression meaning total happiness. Being on cloud 9 means you are in a state of pure bliss or abosulte joy - no idea where the expression comes from

Could be it has the same meaning in German?

reply

ahhh..!! OK...!!

In spanish the expresion is: "Estar en el 7° cielo" = Being in the 7° heaven.

Thanks so much.

Now, I found an interview with director Andreas Dresen where he's being asked about the title...

The interviewer is asking him if it would be a little bit more ecstatic up there on "Cloud 9" than on the usual "Cloud 7"... – His answer is:

"I think so. You're getting older, your feelings are bigger, you're flying a little bit higher in your passion. Maybe you think: who knows how often I will be able to experience this anymore? On the other side, this also means of course: I can fall deeper."

He's mentioning also, that he took the title from a John-Lennon-song called "Nobody Loves You":

"It's from one of my favorite John Lennon albums, Walls And Bridges, which accompanies me since my teenage years. That's when I first stumbled over the idiom 'Cloud 9'. If you translate this into german, it results in a crazy picture. I thought it would be a good title for a movie. Just that I didn't have a movie yet. When we contemplated about this project now, we first had working titles like 'Love in Old Age' or something stupid like that. Then I recalled 'Cloud 9' again."

...There is also an interesting fact about the script in this interview: He is saying that there were no finished dialogues when they were shooting – just seven or eight scipted pages. It was totally up to the actors to act and react to some scenes – such as the reaction of the daughter to the mother when she opens up to her.

Thanks so much, very interesting post.

I like this movie beacuse "old love" is not a common plot nowaday.

And, I´m not so old like this people, but... I´m only some years to this moment.

Thanks again.
