SPOILER ENDING.

If you didn´t see the movie, please don´t continue reading.

The movie was nice, specially because the love for old people is like a tabu matter.
It practically doesn´t exist in the movies, and speccially sex with old people.
This is strange, because ALL THE YOUNG PEOPLE WILL BE OLD PEOPLE SOMEDAY.
But, maybe is something in which nobody want to think.

But.... why so tragedy ending...?????
It was not fair ..!!!

Why the tragic ending?

It was only tragic for Werner. Inge seemed to be okay after the initial shock of Werner's passing (however it occurred - it wasn't clear that he committed suicide).

Werner appeared to be a gentile unsophisticated soul with no 'romantic vision' other than growing old with his wife, cooking her meals, taking train rides with her and watching TV together. When she revealed her new-found love for another man it understandably broke his spirit and caused him to:

a) commit suicide (likely)
b) die of a broken heart (also likely)
c) absentmindedly walk in front of a moving train ( not as likely but poetic)

On the other hand the new lovers may have extended their lives - love has a way of doing that!

You are very naive, she will never get over how her husband died. She was also never really in love with the new guy, she barely knew him. It was fun and discovering sex at her age like a god send. After thirty years he is a very big memory and my guess is she will have a hard time forgetting his broken heart. She could have shared time or not said anything. If she was so respectful, she would have understood what she was doing to him and not let it get out of control. Give the husband some credit, he raised her daughter who told her for her [daughters] concern and for her dad's sake, not to tell him.

Also worth mentioning she was a church going lady whom I would assume has a conscious, as this was the reason she left him. She felt it was unfair to keep lying to him yet it was the very thing that killed him.

In this film the director in my opinion is not sugar coating her in the least, she will pay for her actions is the message of the film. She got her self fulfillment for a short while, yet the repercussions will last her for the rest of her life.
