The one director who could do this justice.

In my mind, the only one who fits the bill is Nicolas Winding Refn.

I know to some, this may seem controversial. Only God Forgives definitely has it's fair share of haters, as does The Neon Demon, but I feel he is the only director currently working with the right qualifications. He has a big enough name to warrant getting the job. His track record is strange enough that he could find the right tone. Producers would understand his stylistic choices (based on previous work) enough to left him off the leash a bit and create his own vision, instead of forcing him into a by the numbers remake, and I think he's a strong enough personality to fight for his vision if the producers tried to micromanage the project.

I'm sure there are others who could make it work. Gasper Noe and Lars Van Trier I'm sure wouldn't mind a swing at it, but for my money, I can't think of a director whose version of a Suspira remake I would rather see.

Who would be your dream director?

Someone who is not so obvious like Nicolas Winding Refn. Neon Demon was pretty much Suspiria on steroids anyway. Refn and Trier are known for visually striking and fantasy oriented art so Suspiria would have their name all over it. It's like hiring Tim Burton for Young Frankenstein remake or Rob Zombie for Texas Chainsaw Massacre; we would know what to expect. On the other hand, before Suspiria, Argento was making giallos that had nothing to do with gothic horror.

Which describes Suspiria pretty perfectly.....

You would probably think thus is silly but it would be interesting to see what Wes Anderson would have done with Suspiria.

Nicolas Winding Refn suXXX =p

I think Darren Aronofsky might be a good choice as well.

reply

Aronofsky would be a good choice! Personally, I'd like to see Chan-Wook Park, Denis Villeneuve, or (and I know I'll get flack for this) Ti West.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law!

reply

Nothing wrong with Ti West; the tone he created with House of the Devil was impressive.

Tom Ford

a lot of great suggestions here... but, maybe a modern indie horror director? I nominate Ti West!

reply

I think Guillermo Del Toro would be able to pull it off.

Michael Bay

*runs away*

Give me "Michael Bay's Suspiria!" and I'll be first in line for the ticket :D

Half the movie would be the academy exploding at the end.
