Heat was much much better

TOTALLY AGREE , Heat was an awesome film. One of my all time favourites. Righteous Kill was *beep*

And Thief -the athletic version of Heat- was half again better than Heat. Spend the five bucks, get a DVD of Thief, and listen to Mann and Caan talk through the movie on the discussion track. If only they'd worked together more.

What I had in mind was boxing the compass.

Totally different movies, so a comparison is not really in place.

Heat's plot was more layed out, the good and bad guys are known from the start. It is all about the psychological games that are played with some great action scenes.
RK (for me) had a nice plot twist, they are looking for a killer, the viewer thinks they know who he is, and he is not... I was pleasantly surprised when I watched it.

Looking beyond characters and story: Heat was cinematographically (is that a word?) a better movie. Mann is brilliant in showing city life, he did a same great job in Collateral. The musical score, especially the ending scene with Moby's music is great in Heat.

So if you do want to compare them: I would chose Heat over RK any time for a rewatch. But I still think RK is a good movie, just not great.

I wasn't a great fan of Heat, but after seeing Righteous Kill, it makes Heat look awesome and I now appreciate it more. RK is decimation of De Niro and Pacino as actors, they play caricatures of themselves, it very sad to see two of my all time fav actors crumble like this towards the end of their careers. Their best is now long past them, very unfortunately.

Heat is a MASTERPIECE and this one is..... there no word to describe it in human tongues. Let's say it's an INSULT to the viewers intelligence. Period.
