THAT OPENING SCENE *spoilers*

It felt like an obvious rip-off of the original Carnival of Souls with the woman crashing into the river after an incident on the road and then her emerging out of the water walking the exact same way as in COS. I'd say it's a nice homage but it felt too much like a rip-off to me.

It's good for people, like me, that have not heard of and wouldn't have seen COS. I get your point, though. I'll check out COS on IMDB and see if it's worth watching, too.

Ah, but here's the crux of the matter, which version of COS did it -- supposedly -- rip off?!

Nice catch! Yeah, COS was one of my favorite horror classics. I was wondering if anyone else would notice that.

However, I loved the movie, and I enjoy it when recent films make little references to past movies. I would hardly call that a rip off. IMHO, a rip off is an unnecessary, poorly made remake of a classic like The Wicker Man remake with Nick Cage or The Wicker Tree. Both of those ripoffs are completely inferior to the original.
