Inglorious Basterds or Munich..?

Hello,

I noticed that a number of Jews-kick-ass films have been produced in recent years. Defiance, Inglourious Basterds, and Munich all portray Jews who fight back, whether it is in the form of attacking, defending, retaliating, escaping, or flat-out revenge.

I was wondering which film folks here thought was better between the latter two. Both thrillers with a touch of drama; which do you find better?

I ask the question on this board because I figure it will be neutral. If I ask it on one of their boards, obviously the fans of the particular board may prove to be biased.

Munich gets my vote.

No disrespect to Pitt, Fassbender et al.

I agree with Marty Scorsey, and it is a very easy choice.

I do not have a high opinion of Tarantino in general, and I thought Inglorious Bestards was a total joke of a film. I consider Munich one of Spielberg's very best films. Inglorious Bs is the usual mediocre tripe by Tarantino.

OP -

Nice move, asking this question at a distance.

Inglourious Basterds - a what-if revenge fantasy, with touches of tasteless but effective comedy.
Munich - a serious historical thriller

Inglourious Basterds is mad, bad, sad but totally satisfying.
I'm Jewish, so I'm biased.
Even the trailer was brilliant.

Munich is great, in a documentary-style, but the underlying tragedy takes me out of the film.
I was 11 when the Munich massacre happened.
I can vaguely remember my parents whispering & being distressed.

So to answer your question: great films for different reasons.

Can't believe it's taken me almost a year to get back to you - I'm Miss ribby45 & you have very good manners.

(And you have great taste in films/actors/make good points about directors. . .sorry, checked out your profile - hope that doesn't sound too weird!)

Hello, Ribby...

Thank you kindly. This thread happens to be one of my less rambunctious efforts, I guess lol..

I have a more entertaining one over on the Robocop 2 board, for example (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100502/board/thread/220110247).

I sentcha a PM.

Munich is such a powerful movie i still find myself thinking about it from time to time and i saw it in the theaters.

IB was ok...but not even in the same ballpark.

Three totally different movies. Can't compare them. Love IB for so many reasons. Loved Munich although it broke my heart and Defiance well - if gave me hope.
