symbolism

I think the main character was a symbol of death just like an owl(the one that wakes up julia stile's character). Since he sleeps with hiS eyes open just like a owl(a symbol of death).every house he sleeps in the owner dies, which makes me think about the story of Julia Stiles house guest when she was young.

Also I think the main character was ready to die because he ate his favorite meal before getting shot at.

Also did anyone pay attention to what julia stiles character said about her cabinet in reference to the movie "its a wonderful life", were the main character is suicidal??? Look up the movie on wikipedia.

I think the ending where the main character sees his reflection is a reflection of what he told julia stiles about he may wake up and not know who he is.

Also when his ex wife says she still loves him and he says that when he first saw her and he was in love but then she moved and it was down hill from there was pretty much the same thing that happened with julia stile's character.

It was fate that the ex wife died from a knife.

I wonder why at the ending the main character says "my wife"???

The man character also wore black the majority of the movie

I see the comparison. But he only slept in 2 houses in the movie. His and the older neighbors. The owner of his house, didn't die, remember he's renting it and that guy asks him to move out.

I think he is the symbol of death (thus "the cry of the owl") but in a more general way. As in, when he comes into peoples lives, it's time for them to die.

*But* this only happens now? Kind of weird. What about the rest of his life, was this a history? It doesn't seem like it.

"Also I think the main character was ready to die because he ate his favorite meal before getting shot at."

Seems so.

It's interesting that to him...she looks happy all the time. That's why he was watching her. But her friend indicates she's not very happy at all. And indeed, it seems like her happiness hinges (like the door...haha) on fate.

Ah yes, I idea of perfection and the reality are not the same. Everything looks good from the outside in still frame.

"It was fate that the ex wife died from a knife."

In what way? Did they forshadow that? (At the beginning the ex-boyfriend character comes outside with the knife looking for him, I guess you could call that forshadowing it)

"I wonder why at the ending the main character says "my wife"???"

I was curious about this as well. But maybe he was just used to calling her his wife.
