Why this movie apparently sucks so badly they won't even release it...

My agent had me read, in Detroit, for a nice role in this. This is when it was still called "Ye Olde Times," and was set to be a vehicle for Jack Black. When they brought me in for a call back, it was for a different character; okay, fine; then my agent said Jack had dropped out of the project, and they were courting Robin Williams for the role. Then they ended up with Cedric the Entertainer Funny guy, but ?), and completely re-wrote the script in what seemed like about two weeks. Where the original movie was about a long-time, lovable rag-tag Shakespearean troupe fending off the charge of the new, snobby hot shot troupe that wants to claim their main stage from them, the new script was about... I don't know. A love story between Owen Benjamin's character and Christina Ricci's. Christina seemed to really not be having a good time on set, which is a bad vibe for a comedy. I ended up working a couple of days as a paid extra; by the time they were nearing the end, they had someone calling us and asking if we "knew anyone who could do a day of extra work for no pay?" -- They had supposedly run out of money to pay extras. (In fairness, they weren't the only production to pull this crap in Detroit. They were hoping for 200 people; I heard they got about 40 suckers to come out, but that's it.) The actors seemed to be improvising a lot. It didn't seem like it was very funny stuff. I certainly don't mean to imply "They should have hired me." Instead I mean, they shouldn't have messed with a good script, and they should have made damn sure they kept Jack Black in the fold.
