This is a staple of the filmmaker, as they started by doing stunt oriented photography, such as hanging off the back of cars on rollerblades to get shots.
Instead of getting mad at hollywood, learn who does what and what styles you prefer. Lumping them in with handheld camera directors of the time is a bit contrived.
Stick to crane shots and Transformers for your 'splosions.
